Below is the 4 minute, advertising promotion for the 1 hr New Zealand Radio Program/interview with Doug Copp concerning his life, the origins of ‘duck and cover’; as a propaganda commercial, created under contract with the Pentagon; during the height of the “red Scare Hysteria’ of the 1950’s. Learn how to take survivability, during earthquakes from the USA Standard of 2%, to 90% survival. One of Doug’s best interviews. The Program will air on Jan 19, 2011 and will be available via the link, below. The Radio website follows:

secondly to be violently opposed
and thirdly to be accepted as ‘self evident’.
Schopenhauer, the German Philosopher
The Triangle of Life was discovered by Doug Copp when he crawled inside a collapsed school, in Mexico City, during a 1985 earthquake. As Doug crawled up and down the aisles in safety, he was shocked that all the children were crushed to death under their desks. The ceiling had fallen and the ceiling’s weight had ‘snapped’ the legs of all the desks. The ceiling rested upon all the desk tops and remained intact. The children’s dead bodies were 1/2 inch thick. Doug did not know it at the time, but 3 children had survived this horror. Their English affidavits are at http://www.amerrescue.org with links to the original Spanish language publications. Two girls, who were in the aisles, survived untouched. The third, Lorena, had her legs squashed under the desk. Her torso was in the aisle. Her legs needed to be amputated but she survived. As you might imagine, Doug Copp’s life was changed by that experience. From that point on he was on a mission to stop children from getting under desks, from ‘ducking and covering.’
The other day I had the privilege of interviewing Doug Copp on the phone for my radio interview program, Voices from the North. Today Doug Copp is the world’s number one disaster survival expert. He’s the founder of ARTI ( the world’s most experienced rescue and disaster mitigation/management organization) and, as is explained above, he’s the discoverer of the ‘triangle of life’ which takes building collapse survivability from 2% using ‘duck and cover’ to 90% using the ‘triangle of life’. He’s recently trained more than 40 teams in China and he’s been featured in Time Magazine and in India’s premier business magazine.
His knowledge has not come easily. Former policeman, Doug Copp has searched 896 collapsed buildings and witnessed 1+ million collapsed buildings at more than 100 major disaster events throughout the world.

I’m currently editing the one hour interview I made with Doug Copp. I would like to share a four minute clip now that, I believe, should be shared with everyone you know who could end up in an earthquake. Doug makes a compelling case and explains where the idea of ‘duck and cover’ originated. He also makes clear what you need to do to survive.
I’ll post the complete interview along with more valuable earthquake survival tips soon.
